Apr. 13th, 2007 03:41 pmDoes anyone have any idea how much it is reasonable to charge for an old computer? I don't really use castleblack, my closet server, since I have professional hosting. Getting rid of it before it gets so old as to be totally worthless seems a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't know where or how to sell it, let alone for how much. Hardware is something like
- Athlon XP 2500+ (1.83 GHz, 512 kiB cache)
- 512 MiB RAM
- 80 GB HDD
- CD-ROM (32X or something?)
- ATI Radeon 9600/256 MiB RAM
- Integrated Ethernet/sound (not 100% on the sound; easy enough to add for $20, anyway…)
- Can throw in Logitech MX700 (optical/wireless) mouse and Logitech (corded) keyboard but, alas, no monitor
Thought no. 2 is that I might consider upgrading mainboard/CPU in my desktop for the money, if I sell it; in which case I could replace the above with—well, a different mainboard, and an AMD64 3000+ (2.00 GHz).
Any thoughts and/or suggestions and/or ballpark figures would be most welcome.
Footnote, in defence to geeks: I don't actually have a Radeon 9600 sitting in there! That'd seem pretty silly for a server. I don't recall whether it has a video card at the moment (it certainly doesn't have a keyboard and a mouse). But I know that card is around here somewhere and I can certainly install it if someone should want to buy it…
