Tried an iPhone

I briefly borrowed an iPhone to see how the damned thing worked. The onscreen keyboard annoyed the hell out of me, but I expect I would get used to that. (No haptic feedback means I can’t type without looking, but hitting the right buttons ought to get easier.) Other than that, it seemed to be about exactly as good as I expected…which is unfortunate, because part of me was really hoping there’d be something to wow and surprise me. But no… The email setup was painless, and IMAP worked just fine. LDAP worked…after a fashion. Support seems pretty rudimentary. I suppose this phone really does do what I need in a phone. I just wish there were a gadget out there good enough that I could get excited about it.
I really ought to get some new phone, though. My current phone has started to freeze and crash when I do certain things, such as search Google Maps or attempt to save a new phone number, both of which are rather important functions. And, of course, its lack of calendar sync means that I am effectively without a calendar (I need something with Google Calendar access, alas). And if I do get a new phone in the near future, given the current line of phones available, and given what’s available in Canada, the iPhone seems the only option.
Sigh.
