Back in Vancouver

…In the midst of a terrible heat wave. I landed yesterday, early evening. Apparently, yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Vancouver. Ever. I do sympathise with you people in hot southern places, to some degree, but really, I did not sign up for this shit!

This makes me a bit irritable. I’m famously bad with hot weather, of course. Additionally, while my apartment has lots of positive attributes, it’s unfortunately a bit of a hothouse, facing west with large windows and no air conditioning, situated on the second floor. On a stifling hot day, my home is still worse than the outside. Of course, the sensible thing to do would be to buy a fan or two; also of course, I can’t, because nobody has them in stock (at least not the four or five stores I checked yesterday).

Currently, I’m sitting at Caffè Artigiano, having enjoyed their good coffee, and enjoying the good free wifi of the nearby Blenz café… (As it happens, Blenz will likely also receive my custom today. After I have lunch, I will go there for tea, as I do not want coffee more than once a day, lest my insides get upset.) Haunting air-conditioned cafés is the only way I can survive…
