Woke up while the sky was still pink with dawn (i.e. it was 9 am).

A little after breakfast, we walked out and followed the deep tracks of someone’s tractor—interspersed with trudging through snow knee-deep and more—to look at the tracks of wild boars where they had wandered into the fields and rooted for food. Also found a spot along a little forest road where a wild boar had dug into an ant-hill. That was fresh spoor indeed: The debris of the ant-hill was so fresh that there was no snow covering it, and not only was it snowing yesterday, it was snowing earlier this morning.

When crossing a ditch with a small stream at the bottom (probably frozen solid), my sister—who brought up the rear—managed to step in just the right spot and sank nearly to her armpits in fluffy, soft snow. No problem or incident, but it was certainly surprising!

On the way back, we walked past a farmer’s sheep pasture where I learned that rams after ewes display the Flehmen response just as do stallions after mares.
